A 100 years ago, in a village called Raddalagala, Ambalawatte was where ‘Undiya Rala’ settled down after sampling Lady Mallu’s famous cooking.
The delicacies created by Mallu were rumored to be better than even the king’s food. Mallu passed on these skills to her daughter Dayawathi, who in turn passed it to her daughter Somawathi as a wedding gift.
To this day, Lady Soma still uses her ancient recipe to create magical ‘Aggala’ by grinding roasted jack seeds and mixing them with sugar and coconut – an unbeatable treat when enjoyed with a cup of tea.
